Derek was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology & Health Science as well as a degree in Psychology at York University. His advocacy work within marginalized communities eventually led to a completion of his Juris Doctorate at Osgoode Hall Law School.
As a lawyer, Derek demonstrates sound ethical judgment, formulates innovative theories of cases and conducts thorough legal research. Derek is mindful of the costs associated with drawn-out litigation and provides his clients with a cost-benefit analysis whenever practical and appropriate. In cases involving high-conflict litigation, Derek alleviates the client’s concerns with his transparent practice, and strongly believes that clients should be well-informed members of the litigation team.
Derek has extensive experience advocating for his clients in both the Ontario Court and Superior Court of Justice. Derek takes pride in using the law to help serve his clients and is passionate about helping them find justice in their case.
Derek completed the Disability Law Intensive Program at ARCH Disability Law Center and is experienced working alongside or representing persons with disabilities.
Aside from work, Derek enjoys attending orchestras, hiking trails, and is an avid Esports fan.
