Victorians are voting for their local government candidates later this month, with promising fresh faces hoping to keep Council a true representation of the people.
78 Victorian local councils will hold elections this month, and they are especially ground-breaking this year with more than one-third of female candidates.

The attendance elections on Saturday 27th October are less publicised than those at State and Federal level, but current candidates urge voters to support individuals representing diversity.
Moreland City Council candidate Meghan Hopper says that Council plays such a prominent role in the area, from running community events and offering youth services.
Its an opportunity for peopleto engage with government on a very local level, she said.
If elected, the 27-year-old hopes to stand for values in Council representative of the younger demographicliving in her ward.
Ms Hopper would also strengthen the gender minorities, as Moreland had five female out of their 11 Councillors last term.
Its important that were voting for more progressive women to continue to fill that voice, she said.

Many residents were unaware the local elections we're taking place, but Municipal Association of Victoria CEO Rob Spence believes locals should look at compulsory voting as a privilege.
